5 things to Bring to a Senior Photo Session

1. Props

One of my favorite parts of senior sessions is helping my seniors be creative with any props they want to include. Some popular ones are confetti, balloons, and memorable items from high school such as letterman jackets, medals, or an item from a hobby such as an

instrument or sports equipment. Bringing a prop can add some spice to your session.

On the other hand, confetti and balloons screams party and graduation should be a celebration, so bring them as well. Last but certainly not least, my favorite prop is something from childhood. This could be a photo from your kindergarten graduation, or your favorite children's book. Adding in a little touch of your past will help symbolize your childhood.

2. Something to Represent Your Future Plans

As one chapter ends another begins! Let’s celebrate what's next for you by bringing a tee shirt, banner, flag, etc. that represents your next adventure, whether it is college, a job, or travel plans. Let's say you're taking a gap year to travel, you can bring your passport or a globe and we can take some cute pictures. Or if you're working at a local business let's go and take a few photos there! No matter what it is or where you are going, there is a way you can integrate it in your senior session.

3. Hair & Makeup Touch Up Tools

A comb and some setting powder can be a lifesaver on photoshoot day! I try to keep an emergency kit with me as well, but sitting down and packing a few items the night before can be helpful. I recommend bobby pins, setting powder, the lipstick you are wearing and a comb just in case you need makeup or hair touch ups during the session.

4. Cap and gown

What are senior photos without your gap and gown? Even if you don’t wear the cap and gown in many photos there are so many great photos we can get using it. Part of capturing your senior year is taking time to get stunning photos you and your family can look back on for years.

The cap and gown make your session

even more special. It makes graduating feel real and helps you realize that all your hard work is about to pay off. Plus, cap and gown pictures now will help you and your family live in the moment on graduation day and not stress about getting the perfect picture, but instead use that time to celebrate!

5. Parent or Friend to Help Celebrate

This is a big deal and you should celebrate with a loved one. I do not only want to help you capture this special time in your life, but also want to help you celebrate.

What better way than to bring along a friend, parent or mentor. This person can help make sure you look your best. I will guide you and help make sure your hair is in the right place, your clothes are laying correctly and the pictures turn out perfect, but an extra pair of eyes is super beneficial. Your person knows what type of smile you like best, the way you like your hair, and what can make you laugh. If I haven't mentioned it enough, senior sessions are a celebration! Invite someone who has supported you and who loves you to help you celebrate!
